About Ocean Man First Nation

Ocean Man First Nation holds a unique place in Canadian history as the community that was re-established in 1990 after being forced to amalgamate with White Bear Reserve in 1901.

Our Nation is proudly part of Treaty 4, signed by Chief Kitchi-Kah-Me-Win (Great Seaman or Ocean Man) on September 9, 1875. We are an Assiniboine, Cree, and Saulteaux community with over 575 registered members.

In 1997, Ocean Man made history as the first and only First Nation in Canada with an elected all-women Chief and Council under Chief Laura Big Eagle. This groundbreaking achievement reflects our progressive values and commitment to Indigenous women's leadership.

Today, we are leaders in sustainable energy development with our Second Wind Solar and Iyuhána Solar projects, generating clean electricity for Saskatchewan. Our Lost Horse Hills company manages traditional land and resource development.
